Decoupage Napkins and Cupcake Stand

Decoupage Dots Cupcake Stand and Napkins

Well, I promised that there would be no more projects with glitter after the holidays. We are still trying to eradicate all of the shimmery remnants of my holiday decor. I really did try my best to keep my promise, but that didn’t last long as you can see.

I found this adorable cupcake stand and set of white napkins at Amazon. I know that’s really surprising to you guys…I basically live there. The rest of the supplies are all from Tesco. I couldn’t turn down the cupcake stand, but I needed something special to go with it. The inspiration behind these glitter dot napkins came from Ashley’s truly amazing blog, Sugar and Cloth.

Supplies:

Cupcake stand (this technique can be used on any cake stand, vase or other glassware)
Cloth napkins
Martha Stewart high gloss decoupage
Martha Stewart fabric to fabric decoupage
Martha Stewart decoupage metallic trims
Silver glitter
Foam pouncer
Small soft paint brush
Rubbing alcohol

Cupcake Stand

To begin, wipe the area to be decoupaged with rubbing alcohol. Paint a thin strip of the high gloss decoupage around the area of the stand to which you would like to add your decoupage trim. I chose to decoupage the outside of the foot. Depending on how large your area is, you may have to do this in sections so that the decoupage doesn’t dry before you can apply your trim.

Stick your trim around the entire perimeter and seal down any bumps by running your paintbrush around the entire strip.

Allow the first coat to dry for an hour. Finish with two top coats, allowing each to dry for at least an hour in between.

Napkins

To make the dots on your napkins, dip the pouncer lightly in the Martha Stewart fabric decoupage. Gently press the pouncer on the napkin and do a little wrist twist. The twist helps makes the edge of your dot come out clean. Don’t be nervous…after a couple of dots this technique becomes really easy.

Do a few dots at a time, dusting glitter over each dot and letting it set.

When everything is dry, shake off the excess glitter. Take your foam pouncer, dip it lightly in the decoupage and dab the top of each glittered dot to seal. I repeated this step twice just to be safe. Let the decoupage cure for 72 hours before washing, getting wet, etc.
