Office and Craft Organization Project
I’m not doing New Year’s Resolutions this year, but there have been a couple of nagging organizational projects I’ve needed to tackle for awhile. The most daunting is now done…my office/craft room. This is the loft area of our apartment, so it was getting really easy to shove stuff up there and forget about it. I wanted to make this a functional space that would motivate me and inspire some major creativity.
This area holds our two desks, office supplies, books and all of my wrapping and craft supplies – cutting punches, glue, paint, brushes, card-making supplies, scrap paper, ribbon, wrapping paper, etc. We are currently in an apartment and moving this spring, so I didn’t want to add permanent shelving or any major wall installations. With just a few bins and organizers from HomeGoods, I was able to take all of the craft supplies I had in very messy drawers and make everything orderly and visible.

As an initial step (before pictures), I tucked most of my stickers, gift tags and little accessories into mason jars. This way I can actually see what I already have to work with instead of buying new supplies for each project. Cleaning a million small things out from the drawers freed up space to store the larger items cluttering my desktop. My wrapping paper rolls, which are mostly depleted after the holidays, but will get out of control again very soon, are now tucked away in a tall bin. Gift bags and tissue are stacked neatly instead of just thrown into a bigger bag.

Instead of my ribbon rolls falling off of the shelf all the time, now they are all tucked into an organizer for easy access.

My card-making supplies – Paint pens, plates for my embossing machine and blank cards are arranged in an organizer and scrap paper is now neatly tucked in a document box.

I am so thrilled to have this project completed. I can’t wait to work in my comfy space upstairs instead of hunched over the living room table. I have a feeling this room will inspire some great crafting and pretty gifts in 2014!

I love your space. I need to do this…BAD. My office looks like a bomb went off. I never got it organized after the move. It never functioned as an office because it became our drop zone for everything that wasn’t unpacked or didn’t have a place yet. You just inspired me to put the office on my to do list this week!
