We’re on the house hunt, and a bathroom makeover is likely to be in our future! I’m excited to have Sue Jason guest post today with some very cool modern vanity ideas.

Hi, my name is Sue Jason and I am a blogger at My-bathrooms blog. I have a passion for sharing ideas which include home improvement and decor. For further read up on my work please visit my blog.

Bathroom Makeover – Include a Vanity Unit

Modern Vanity

Smaller bathrooms tend to have the bare basics installed into them, with little scope or room for anything extra. However, if you are still at the planning stage, why not give careful consideration to the idea of installing a bathroom vanity unit?

Modern Floating Vanity

A vanity set usually consists of a cabinet and mirror, often with a basin (complete with taps) set into the top of the cabinet. The mirror can be fixed to the top of the cabinet, but is more typically a separate item which will need to be fixed to the wall. Some vanity sets also have shelves as part of the combination; like the mirror, these will need to be fixed to the wall.

Light and Airy Bathroom

There are two major benefits to buying a bathroom vanity set. The first is that it is often cheaper to buy the furniture as a single unit, rather than buying each piece individually. The second major benefit is that the vanity set will all match perfectly, having been crafted with the same materials, the same color paint and varnish and designed to look as part of a whole.

Vanity Closeup

Buying the individual pieces over time, or from different places, could see you finding that the paint has changed very slightly or that a different shade of wood has been used. This can result in your bathroom looking poorly put together and mismatched. Also, if you plan to buy individual pieces month by month, installing them as you purchase them, you may well find that the older pieces are beginning to show signs of wear and tear while the newer pieces are still bright and shiny. Buying and installing the vanity as a set is sure to prevent the issue of uneven aging.

Modern Bathroom with Fireplace

If you dislike the look of bare pipework (which often needs a lot of dusting and wiping down over time!) then a vanity set may be exactly what you are looking for! Your vanity can usually be tweaked slightly so that it fits smoothly into the bathroom, providing useful work surfaces for make-up, fresh flowers or even small ornaments, while disguising and protecting your pipes from dirt, dust and general view. A small vanity provides surprisingly generous storage space under the basin, an area that would generally be wasted. Noticing and appreciating features like this will soon have you including an attractive and functional vanity into your bathroom décor plans!
