Chevron Carton Treat Boxes

d Hi! It’s Angela from Life in Velvet sharing a stylish chevron carton treat box along with Sizzix. These are so much fun, and they make a perfect party favor. To begin, cut a 12 x 12 sheet of heavy cardstock in half. Layer one cutting pad, crease pad, cardstock and milk carton die.  After die cutting the carton, fold each crease. Follow the instructions here for how to assemble the carton. I prefer double-sided tape, but you can also …read more

Painless Bookcase Painting {Plus a Giveaway}

The work on my home office continues, but I’m thrilled to be finished with one key piece. Once I installed my gallery frames, I realized a set of half-height bookcases would be just what I needed to complete the wall. I may eventually add some updates to these so they look like built-ins, but for now, I love them just the way they are. I found these great bookcases at Home Depot for only $30 each. They are laminate, and …read more

Displaying Throw Blankets

I’m constantly cold, and Mike has an obsession with having fans going, so multiple blankets in every room is a thing at our house. I love beautiful throws draped over the furniture, but I also need to keep my bulky fleece blankets organized in an attractive way. I thought it would be really simple to find a relatively inexpensive huge basket, but I quickly discovered that was not the case. I searched all over the place, and finally landed on …read more

Guest Room Reveal

You’ve seen sneak peeks of my Be My Guest wire sculpture and white and wood makeover. I’m so excited to share our (finally) completed cozy guest room. It took me forever to finish the last little details, but I really love how everything turned out. I’m especially proud because the dresser, nightstands and headboard were thrift store makeovers, allowing me to pull this room together very inexpensively. I wanted this space to feel very comfortable, clean and uncluttered. I started …read more

White and Wood Makeover

The process of decorating our house has been moving pretty slowly (ultimate understatement.) One room is completely finished though, our guest room. I will post with pictures of the full room soon, but first I wanted to show you this simple update on the dresser and nightstands. These were my first major thrift store furniture purchase. I found these all thanks to Tyler Lynch and Kerry Howard who took a group of us to their favorite hidden neighborhood gems. Absolutely …read more

Paper Roll Message Board

We needed some sort of message board in our kitchen, so I borrowed this idea from restaurant images I’ve seen lately. I wanted a fun solution that would allow for friends to draw at parties, for us to leave messages for each other, and something that wouldn’t just look ordinary. I started by staining and then finishing each of the wood pieces with gray paint to create a whitewashed look. This is completely optional, but it fits well with our style. Supplies: Wood …read more
